Former First Lady Melania Trump was notably absent from the first two nights of the Republican National Convention (RNC) in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
She did not speak on Monday night, when her husband, former President Donald Trump, selected JD Vance as his vice-presidential running mate.
This absence occurred just days after an attempted assassination on Donald Trump at a political rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.
Prominent speakers at the RNC included Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, Sen. Tim Scott, and Amber Rose, who praised Melania Trump onstage.
On Tuesday, speakers supporting Trump included House Speaker Rep. Mike Johnson, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, and former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley.
Traditionally, spouses of Republican presidential candidates give a speech during the convention, making Melania’s absence notable.
Melania Trump has previously spoken at the RNC in 2016 and 2020, with her 2016 speech containing similarities to one by Michelle Obama.
Despite not speaking, Melania plans to attend the convention and has appeared at private events, including fundraisers.
She issued a statement thanking Secret Service agents after the assassination attempt on Donald Trump and called for Americans to rise above hate and violence.
Melania criticized the assailant, identified as Thomas Crooks, who was killed by law enforcement officials shortly after the attack.
